AWARD-WINNING HUMAN MEDICINE
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen
Each year, we are honored to recognize distinguished scientists and emerging talents at our award ceremony. Our foundation's philosophy, "Special competence deserves special recognition," is embodied in this event, creating an atmosphere befitting such achievements. We extend our gratitude to all participants for making the evening memorable.

Beyond honoring achievements, we emphasize promoting scientific exchange. Since 2021, the Jung Symposium and networking initiatives for young scientists have been key efforts. This year, we're excited to join the Blankeneser Conferences. More details are provided below.

AWARD CEREMONY 2024 IN A FAMILY CIRCLE

Stimulating discussions, moving tributes, stirring acceptance speeches and much applause for the laureates: the atmosphere at this year’s award ceremony was lively and reverential. We are delighted that we were able to present three outstanding scientists with their awards at a festive dinner at the Anglo-German Club on Hamburg's Outer Alster Lake on the evening of 2 May 2024.

JUNG CAREER ADVANCEMENT AWARD FOR DR MAXIMILIAN U. FRIEDRICH
Dr. Friedrich impressed our Scientific Advisory Board with his project, "Brain in Balance: Translational Neuroanatomy and Connectome-Based Network Analysis of the Vestibular System." His research aims to enhance understanding of brain networks in the vestibular system, potentially leading to new therapies for neurological diseases like stroke, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. He received the Jung Career Advancement Award and 210,000 euros in funding for advancing his research.

JUNG CAREER ADVANCEMENT AWARD FOR DR CHRISTINE MARIA POCH
Dr. Poch’s project, "Research into Cardiac Regeneration through Human Ventricular Progenitor Cells," utilizes 3D printing technology to simulate heart diseases. This innovative model provides valuable insights into cardiovascular diseases and potential new therapies. For this impressive project, she was awarded the Jung Career Advancement Award by our Scientific Advisory Board. She will also receive 210,000 euros to further her research.

JUNG GOLD MEDAL FOR MEDICINE FOR PROFESSOR RUDOLF ZECHNER
With the Jung Gold Medal for Medicine, we honour a lifetime achievemtn. This year, the award was presented to Professor Rudolf Zechner, who has made a significant contribution to the study of lipid metabolism. He has not only fundamentally changed biochemistry and physiology textbooks, but also demonstrated promising strategies for treating metabolic disorders. In particular, his discovery and exploration of the adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) enzyme and its essential co-activator CGI-58 provided insight into the development and possible treatment of long-standing lipid storage diseases. The prize is accompanied by a scholarship totalling 30,000 euros, which Professor Zechner can award to a junior scientist of his choice.

NETWORK MEETING FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS
2024 is dedicated to promoting young talent, evidenced by awarding two Jung Career Advancement Awards. We currently support numerous young researchers, including our three Deutschlandstipendiaten and five fellows each from 2022 and 2023. We are currently looking forward to our annual network meeting, where we invite our young scientists to dinner at the Foundation. Here, we foster connections and promote idea exchanges among our fellows.
Blankenese Conferences
