AWARD-WINNING HUMAN MEDICINE |
|
|
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen
Inspiring and empowering the next generation of medical professionals within Germany constitutes a central aspect of our mission. Therefore, in 2006, the Jung Foundation introduced the Jung Career Advancement Award, aimed at supporting promising scientific talents. We also support young researchers and medical students at a much earlier stage, during their studies, by providing scholarships through the University of Hamburg. In addition, we awarded five fellowships to doctoral candidates for the first time last year and announced another fellowship in medical history.
To highlight this current focus, the 2024 Jung Night will feature a premiere occurrence. For further details, along with updates on our 4th Jung Symposium and the latest developments within our youth development initiatives, please refer to this newsletter. |

A PREMIERE AT THE 2024 AWARD CEREMONY
For the very first time, at this year’s Jung Night we will be awarding two talented young researchers with the Jung Career Advancement Award. Both medical professionals will receive the full prize value of €210,000 each, which they can freely utilize to continue their exciting research projects. Additionally, we will award the Jung Gold Medal for Medicine, honoring a lifetime in research and clinical work. We are looking forward to personally honor our laureates at a celebratory awards dinner in Hamburg.

OUR FOCUS IN 2024: SUPPORTING YOUNG TALENTS |

CONGRATULATIONS ON PASSING THE STATE EXAMINATION
For six years, we had the privilege to accompany her on her journey, and today, we extend our heartfelt congratulations: Our “Deutschlandstipendien” scholarship recipient, Kira Ayleen Offen, has passed her third state examination! She was one of the first human medicine students whom we supported with this scholarship, and her talent and dedication have been a great source of inspiration, not only in the medical field. In an email to us, she expressed her gratitude for being able to 'focus on my studies and research' thanks to the support of the scholarship, while still 'fulfilling my volunteer commitments, engaging in music, and finding time for family and friends.' We wish her all the best on her continued journey in medicine and research!

PROVIDING SUPPORT DURING MEDICAL STUDIES
After Kira Ayleen Offen has finished her “Deutschlandstipendien” scholarship, we are delighted to welcome a new scholar into the Jung family: Konstantin Matsui will join Julia Maria Fuchs and Alex Waterhölter as the third recipient of the scholarship. This marks our seventh participation in the University of Hamburg's “Deutschlandstipendien” scholarship program, and we remain delighted to support such exceptionally dedicated students with a monthly financial contribution.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR DR ANASTASIOS GIANNOU
Since receiving the Jung Career Advancement Award in 2022, Dr Anastasios Giannou has been involved in 20 publications in the past year alone. Now, he is following a unique opportunity: Dr Giannou will be joining the University Hospital Favoloro in Argentina as a guest professor to exchange expertise with local professionals on methods of microsurgical transplantation. As the medical equipment available on-site is insufficient for his ambitious scientific endeavors, Dr Giannou will allocate a portion of his prize money to acquire the necessary tools. We are delighted that our support contributes to advancing international knowledge exchange and wish Dr Giannou all the best.
