JUNG NIGHT AND JUNG SYMPOSIUM 2023
Dear Sir or Madam
We congratulate our 2023 award winners Professor Türeci, Professor Rose-John (on the right) and Dr Mrestani (on the left). Overlooking the Außenalster at the prestigious Anglo-German Club, we were able to honor them in the exclusive circle of the Jung family for their groundbreaking research. The potential of their work was demonstrated the following day at our third Jung Symposium. Our laureates presented their results and talked about their significance for medicine in a worldwide livestream and in front of a live audience. In summary: Those were two great events for which we would like to thank all participants.

AN EVENING IN THE CIRCLE OF THE JUNG FAMILY: THE JUNG NIGHT 2023

Inspiring conversations, emotional speeches and the awarding of three deserving medical personalities: This year's award ceremony at the Anglo-German Club on the Außenalster was a complete success. Not only because we were able to honor our laureates of 2023, but also because we were able to honor them in a personal atmosphere. It was an evening that will certainly be positively remembered by everyone involved for a long time to come. With the award ceremony, it is especially important to us to be able to offer a platform where excellent people from research and medicine can meet and exchange ideas.

FIRST TIME WITH LIVE AUDIENCE: THE JUNG SYMPOSIUM 2023

What possibilities do mRNA agents open up for future cancer treatments? How can autoimmune diseases be combated with greater precision? And how do point mutations in the CACNA1A gene influence the onset of epilepsy and migraines? These questions and many more were answered by this year's award winners at the Jung Symposium "Excellent Human Medicine 2023". For the first time, in addition to the worldwide livestream, there was also the possibility of following the presentations while being present: In the Ian K. Karan lecture hall of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. An option that was taken up by many interested parties and which we will therefore continue in 2024.

If you did not manage to watch the lectures live, you can find them here.

CHANGE IN THE SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD
Prof. Christian Büchel / © Eric Anders
Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to Prof. Dr Christian Büchel this year. The director of the Institute for Systemic Neuroscience at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf is stepping down from his activities as the Chairman of our Scientific Advisory Board at the beginning of July, in accordance with our statutes, after two terms of four years each, in order to devote himself to other tasks. We thank him for many years of support and commitment and look forward to welcoming him as part of our Jung family at our events.

Prof. Büchel will be succeeded as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board by Prof. Dr Thomas Boehm. He is Director of the Immune System Development Department at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg and has received the Jung Prize for Medicine from us in 2014. The focus of his research includes the evolution of the immune system and the genetic causes of congenital immunodeficiency in humans.
Prof. Dr. Ruth Ley / © Eric Anders

Prof. Dr Boehm's deputy on the Scientific Advisory Board is Professor Ruth Ley, PhD. In 2018, we awarded her the Jung Prize for Medicine, and she has been part of our Board of Trustees since 2022. Now we are pleased to call the Director of the Department of Microbiome Research at the Max Planck Institute of Biology Tübingen and Managing Director of the Institute Vice Chair of our Scientific Advisory Board.
THANK YOU AND SEE YOU AGAIN IN 2024

We would like to thank all official actors and of course our guests and our audience. Special thanks also go to the Anglo-German Club and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. We hope that all participants were able to take away a lot of exciting information. It was a pleasure for us to award our laureates and to honor their work.
